A method for treating fuel oil includes extracting vanadium by contacting the fuel oil with an magnetic nano-adsorbent. The nano-adsorbent was modified with humic acid as a compound having carboxyl, hydroxyl and amin functionality. The functionalities could help improving coordination of nano-adsorbent by Vanadium ion (VO2+) in order to removing vanadium content from oil samples. Differentiating of some parameters, such as adsorbent dosage and contact time were investigated on the removal efficiency. In order to complete evaluation of the nano-adsorbent behavior in the removal process, some extra parameters such as pH, temperature and vanadium initial concentration was optimized. The method provides effective removal of vanadium from mazut oil at moderate temperatures.
