Shahram Setayesh – Master of Information Technology
Broadband communication is becoming a foundational element of the entire economy ,supporting entire industries, and is transforming the nature of human life itself. As reported in Morgan Stanley’s Internet Trends Report of June 2010, in a survey among the hierarchy of human needs, voice and data connectedness now ranks third, behind food and shelter. As wireless technology represents an increasing portion of the global communications infrastructure, it is important to understand overall broadband trends. Sometimes wireless and wire line technologies compete with each other, but, in most instances, they are complementary. For the most part, backhaul transport and core infrastructure for wireless networks are based on wire line approaches, whether optical or copper. This applies as readily to Wi-Fi networks as it does to cellular networks.Trends show explosive bandwidth growth of the Internet at large and for mobile broadband networks in particular. Cisco projects global IP traffic growing at a compound annual growth rate of 32% between 2010 and 2015, quadrupling traffic in that period. Meanwhile, mobile broadband traffic will approximately double each year over that same period.3 With declining voice revenue, but increasing data revenue, cellular operators face a tremendous opportunity in continuing to develop their mobile broadband businesses. Successful execution, however, means more than just providing high speed networks. It means addressing demand that is growing at an extremely rapid rate. It also means nurturing an application ecosystem, providing value added services, and supplying attractive devices. One of the most attractive service is Home health, also referred as Tele Health, is a fast-emerging market offering: letting patients remain home, having patients and clinicians work together to achieve best outcomes. The patient may be viewed remotely over a broadband connection by a physician or a family member. The service will allow tracking of health status as well as enabling social networking and ability to setup Individual preferences for variety of managed devices. Home health service key values ı Independent living: remote support for elderly people; ı Wellness monitoring: health condition tracking and consumer interface; ı Connecting health devices to the consumer’s home network; ı Emergency support: alerts and notification upon alarming events; ı Recommendations based on collected health data; ı Trend analysis based on collected health data; ı Family portal to allowing remote support from family and caregivers; ı Proactive notifications and recommendations to consumer.
