In this study, ultrasound-assisted oxidative desulfurization (UAOD) was applied to reduce the sulfur compounds of gas oil. Latest environmental regulation requires a very deep desulfurizationto eliminate the sulfur compounds in petroleum fraction and UAOD is a promising technology for achieving this goal with lower operation cost and higher safety and environment protection. Theperformance of intense ultrasound on gas oil at room temperature and atmospheric pressure wasconsidered. The influence of time, oxidant (H2O2) amount and volume of extraction solvent were investigated and ASTM 3120 method was used for analyzing oil phase. The use of ultrasonic irradiation allowed a high efficiency for sulfur removal in gas oil. In this work, the highestremoval of about 65% for gas oil containing 9500 ppm of sulfur was achieved during 18 minutes of process at 65°C when extraction was done by methanol and volume of H2O2 was set at 18 ml
