چکیده:

Despite considerable progress concerning water-saving actions in industries, textile companies still need high quantities of fresh-water and use large quantities of chemical reagents and caused several environmental pollution problems. Innovative, simple, cheap and effective methods of purifying wastewater before discharging into any other water systems are needed. This research is focusing on studying and promoting wastewater treatment through an innovative electrocoagulation (EC) process. The present work, combined use of adsorption (using granular activated carbon (GAC) and EC technology for higher removal COD and color in wastewater treatment compared to EC process alone. The synthetic wastewater was treated in a batch mode by GAC combined with electrocoagulation, also spongy metal electrodes (metal foam electrods) was used instead of solid and uniform electrodes. For removal of COD and color from waste water containing Acid Red14, the effect of various parameters on decolorization efficiency and COD removal was studied and optimized. Results illustrated that applying spongy aluminium anode with steel cathode, in 250ppm solution volume with optimum current density 40A/m2, initial dye solution up to 50ppm, time of reaction= 3 min, residence time=10 min, GAC=20 ppm, (conductivity of dye solution could be more than 10mS/cm), pH=4-8 (with high flexibility) could removed 90% COD with 96% color removal efficiency
