In this study, nanocomposites of PA6 toughened with three different types of rubbers (SEBS, EPDM and E-MA-MAH) at various nanoclay contents were prepared using melt compounding in a twin screw extruder. To achieve better interaction between components, 5 wt % of m-SEBS and m-EPR were used as compatibilizers in PA6/nanoclay/SEBS and PA6/nanoclay/EPDM nanocomposites, respectively. Response surface methodology was employed for design of experiments and optimization of mechanical properties. Mechanical properties of prepared nanocomposites were investigated applying tensile and impact strength tests. A desired balancebetween modulus and impact strength was achieved for optimized formulations. Morphologicalstudies were accomplished using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) methods. The exfoliated structure was revealed byXRD in selected samples. Oxygen permeability measurements were performed and the resultsindicated acceptable improvement of barrier properties compared to PA 6/rubber blends
