چکیده:

The ablation properties and thermal behavior of carbon fiber/resol-type phenolic resin/nano zirconium dioxide nanocomposite were evaluated to determine the potential of using this compound as the thermal protection system (TPS). Various weight percentages of nano ZrO2 were used in nanocomposite as an insulator in order to improve the thermal and ablative efficiency. The degradation of insulator has been investigated by thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) up to 800oC .Nanocomposite samples were exposed to oxyacetylene flame for 20s with a heat flux of 8.5×۱۰۹ W/m2. Low erosion rate and high ablation resistance were observed with increasing nano ZrO2 wt% up to 7wt%. The SEM results of the samples after ablation test confirmed the existence of a new ceramic phase on carbon fiber due to the reduction reaction of nano ZrO2 , during oxyacetylene flame test.
