چکیده:

A novel antimicrobial monoazo dye based on N-pyridine-1,8-naphthalimide was synthesised. To do this, 4-amino-N-2-aminomethylpyridine-1,8-naphthalimide was prepared, diazotised and then coupled to N,N-dihydroxyethylaniline to produce an antimicrobial dye. Structure of the dye was determined by FTIR, DSC, 1HNMR, 13CNMR and UV-Visible spectroscopic techniques. The molar extinction coefficient, wavelength maxima and solvatochromism effect were obtained using chloroform, toluene and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) as solvent. The biological efficacy of the dye and intermediates was evaluated in aqueous solution by use of conventional agar dilution procedure and a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against fungi, Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
