چکیده:

friction stir processing which is based on friction stir welding is a solid state processing to improve microstructure and mechanical properties of sheets and as-cast metals. By using this technique it is possible to produce a composite layer on various metals one of the important problems in friction stir processing of AZ91 magnesium alloy is the sticking of the magnesium to the tool and the creation of cracks and brittle fracture inthe present work the effect of the main process parameters rottational speed transverse speed tool penetration depth and tilt angle ont he developed surface quality has been investigated results show that by increasing the rotational speed the maximum transverse speed to produce a defect free specimen without crack and tunnelling cavity increases the paper describes an optimum penetration depth while preventing sticking of magnesium to the tool and producing a defect free specimen.
