چکیده:

In this study, an attempt was made to synthesize the Mg Ni4Y catalyst from pure Ni, Mg and Y elemental powders by mechanical milling and combination of mechanical milling and heat treatment methods. In this regard, powders of elements were ball milled at different conditions and then heat treated at 600ºC for 4 hour. X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) methods were used to evaluate the characteristics of the milled mixtures. It was found from the results of XRD analysis that by increasing the ball milling time from 5 to 25 hours, the crystallite size of Nickel decreased from 16 to 4 nm and lattice strain increased from 0.05% to 4.19%, but ternary intermetallic was not observed after milling. XRD patterns showed that nano-structure MgNi4Y was formed after heat treatment. SEM micrographs of 25 hours milled samples revealed nano-size particles and agglomerates of Mg Ni4Y ternary intermetallic alloy
