Preparation of surface modified silica nanpoparticles and then its grafting with polymer chains is a widespread method for the synthesis of functional polymer-silica hybrid materials with well defined properties. Surface- grafted water-soluble polymers such as poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) are much interest, because of the great potential of this tailor made surfaces for several practical applications such as chromatographic supports, heterogeneous catalysis, biocompatible implant layers and academic research [1-5].In this study, vinyl modified silica nanoparticles (VSN) were prepared by one-pot synthesis under sonication, as a facial reaction conditions with addition of vinyltriethoxysilane (VTEOS) to the already progressing base-catalyzed hydrolysis–condensation reactions of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). In the next step, poly(vinylpyrrolidone) grafted onto vinyl modified silica nanoparticles (PVP–SN) were prepared by bulk radical copolymerization of VSN and VP monomers as a desired reaction and solvent free conditions. The products were also characterized by fourier transformation spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and elemental analysis.
