Rare-earth oxide with different nanostructures are of great importance because of their applications in high-performance luminescent devices, biological labeling, magnets, and catalysts based on the electronic, optical, and chemical characteristics arising from their 4f electrons . For many years, CeO2 -based materials have been mainly used as catalysts and pigments in ceramics or glasses. Today ceria and Rare earth doped ceria are applied as an active component in three-way catalysts (oxidation of CO, oxidation of CnHm , reduction of NOx) for car exhaust . Rare earth- doped ceria (RDC) has also higher values of ionic conductivity . Several method have been employed for the preparation of nano- CeO2, such as sol – gel method, precipitation method, hydrothermal synthesis , etc. In this paper, we report the synthesis of cerium dioxide, Sm-doped cerium dioxide nanotubes (SDC) and Ag-doped cerium dioxide nanotubes (ASD). X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were applied to characterize as-prepared samples.
