Ni-Ti intermetallic compounds have distinct properties that distinguish them from other types of intermetallic compounds. These properties include shape memory, compatibility with body environment, super elasticity property, high toughness, appropriate tribology behaviour and high corrosion resistance. Mechanical alloying followed by appropriate heat treatment to produce nanostructure intermetallic compounds is being widely used nowadays. This study was an attempt to investigate the formation of nanostructure intremetallic compound in Ni-Ti system, using mechanical alloying and subsequent heat treatment. Ni75Ti25 Initial powder was milled in a planetary ball mill under argon atmosphere at different times and was evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Results showed that the Ni3Ti nanostructure Intermetallic compound was formed after 75 hoar ball mill. Also, heat treatment on 1050 ºC lead to formation of NiTi2 and some titanium oxide in addition to stabilizing Ni3Ti nanostructure.
