Solid oxide fuel cells are very interested because of their high efficiencies and reduce pollution. In this study, nano powder yttria stabilizied zirconia with 8 mol% (8YSZ) has been prepared by different methods. In this study, Yttria, Y2O3 and yttria stabilizied zirconia, YSZ, nano structures have been prepared via sono chemical and thermal decomposition methods. Yttria has been prepared by thermal decomposition of Y(III) complex of pydcH2 as ligand, pydcH2 = 2,6- pyridine dicarboxylic acid. The Y(III) complex, has been prepared by the reaction between yttrium(III) nitrate hexa hydrated with pydcH2 and KBr in methanol under ultrasonic irradiation. Characterization of the synthesised complex has been performed by XRD, SEM, FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, TG/DTA and elemental analysis. Proposed chemical formulas based on the results can be, [Y(pydc)2 K 3H2O]n. The particle sizes of the synthesized complex were about 100 nm. Thermal reduction of the complexes leads to the formation of Y2O3 micro and nano structures. In this work we prepared yttria stabilized zirconia nano particles with a new and simple method by using Zr(IV) and Y(III) pydc complexes as precursors in water under ultrasonic irradiation and calcinations treatments. The product has been studied by XRD and SEM methods.
