Surface modification of polymers is one of the growing fields of research in polymer related industries. Among different methods for surface modification of polymers, laser assisted treatment offers advantages over chemical and physical methods. It could modify the surface of a polymer precisely and without any contaminants. In the last decade this method has rapidlygrown and attracted considerable interest among scientist. The purpose of the work presentedhere is modifying and increasing the surface area of nanofibers with a new selective laser etching method, without any side effect to the bulk polymer of nanofibers. The new method is based ondifferent infrared absorption of materials. Surface modification of Clay-Pan compositenanofibers was performed using selective laser etching approach with CO2 pulsed laser in order to increase surface area of nanofibers. The surface structure of resulted nanofibers is characterized using field emission scanning electron microscope and the results show characteristic modification of the surface topography of laser treated nanofibers. This new technique is highly selective also it can compete with conventional techniques for nanofibers surface modification.
