In simulation of the mechanical behavior of granular soils using elasto-plastic models, influence of the elastic part has been usually over simplified in past works. Herein, formulations of five elasticity theories specially developed for granular soils (including four recently proposed formulations) are described. These elastic models are implemented within the general formulation of an advanced elasto-plastic sand model. The modelswith the same elements for the plastic part but withdifferent types of elasticity are then applied for simulation of the behavior of sands under monotonic and cyclic loadings. It is shown that the models predictions for monotonic shear are nearly the same. For the case of cyclic shear, remarkable differences can be observed between the models predictions. It is shown that considering the effect of stress induced anisotropyleads to more reasonable predictions under cyclic shear
