چکیده:

Tuned liquid damper (TLD) is a common passive energy dissipation device. Natural frequency of a TLD is a key parameter which should be tuned to the desired frequency. The used theories in this article are based on small response amplitude such that the natural frequency of TLD can be assumed to remain constant during vibration. Tank with different widths and water heights may have similar natural frequencies.This paper’s goal is to compare performance of TLDs with different water height and tank width. Several charts representing possible TLD widths and water heights to achieve a given constant natural frequency are provided. In the comparisons, weight and natural frequency are constant parameters. Some cases are chosen and numerical model of each case is made using ABAQUS software and excitations with various frequencies are applied to the models and the amounts of dissipated energy are demonstrated. Comparisons are made for dissipated energy for each TLD and the effect of tank width and water height on the performance of TLDs are investigated. Findings indicate that if more portion of the liquid is involved in vibration, higher amounts of energy will be absorbed by TLD and results in an improved performance
