Attempt was made to study rheology and morphology of ABS/Closite30B nanocomposites prepared via melt intercalation method.. SAN/g-ABS 65/35 wt % (commercial composition of ABS) exhibited a severe elasticity which tended to a plateau at low frequencies, representative of the presence of rubber particles’ network. Comparing the rheological properties of ABS and ABS/Clayand SAN/Clay nanocomposites showed that positive or negative deviation of mixing rules can be observed depending on clay content. Using linear viscoelastic properties it was predicted that the feeding order has a distinct effect on the dispersion of the clay in ABS/Clay nanocomposite samples. Feeding of the clay before than g-ABS led to its better dispersion and creation of more strength network between clay platelets and/or between clay layers and SAN grafted rubber particles. These were evidenced using XRD and TEM analysis. TEM images clearly showed that the clay tactoids preferentially aggregates near the rubber particles if the clay is fed after g-ABS.
