چکیده:

The study of contact mechanics aspects is fundamental in many engineering problems. The first step in mechanical contact analysis is the surface description. In this paper, statistical behavior of the contact mechanics analysis between two contacting cylindrical rough surfaces is investigated. Roughness profile is assumed Gaussian distribution along the line of contact in facewidth direction with ground surfaces characterizations. Piecewise parabolas based on the least mean square method is deterministically employed in approximation of roughness profile. An elastic-fully plastic model is applied for calculating real contact area, and contact pressure. The results of this study are shownthat the contact and maximum shear stresses, which is initiated below the contact surface, is affected slightly by different sample points’ placement through the roughness profile. Also, the values of these stresses, which are considered as the key factors for surface pitting failure, are more severe than the Hertz elastic theory with smooth surface assumption. The current analysis in the presence of surface roughness tends tofollow Hertz solution when the influence of roughness is disappeared gradually
