چکیده:

The widespread use of Poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB), a biodegradable biocompatible polymer with properties similar to polypropylene and polyethylene, is primarily dependent to its overallproduction costs controlled by factors like carbon source type, PHB productivity, PHB content ofcells, and PHB extraction methods. The modeling of PHB production helps us to achieve a better understanding of the fed-batch cultivation, study the contribution of different nutrients, findefficient feeding strategies to obtain more PHB productivity, and predict different parameters like nutrients and biomass concentration time profiles and their respective yields. In this investigation,a mechanistic growth kinetic model including terms for methanol (carbon source) and nitrogenconcentrations and their inhibitory effect was adopted. An ordinary differential equations (ODE) system describing mass balances for methanol, nitrogen, and biomass was developed andunderwent an optimization routine to result the optimized values fitting the mathematical model. Good agreement was observed between the experimental and simulated values indicating the suitability of the mathematical model.
