چکیده:

The paper summarizes basic propertis and potential applications of semiconductor nanocrystals viewed as novel optical materials. Basic properties include size-dependent absorption and emission spectra, broad size-dependent luminescence excitation spectra, strong nonliner optical response, high photostability, electro-optical effect and feasibility to make solid samples, thin films, solutions and even bioconjugates. Applications include optical filters, nonlinear laser filters/shutters and Q-switches, electro-optical modulators, swithces, display components, fluorescent labels in biospectroscopy. Favorable features of semiconductor nanocrystals are highlighted.
