چکیده:

This paper studies the seismic behavior of steel Special Moment-Resisting Frames (SMRF) which are affected by wave like earthquakes, recorded in near fault areas. This goal is achieved based on theevaluation of structural dynamic response characteristics which have been resulted by conducting a number of non-linear dynamic time history analyses. The studied structural systems are consisted of 10-, 20- and 30-story steel SMRFs. The structural models have been designed according to the Iranian seismic code 2800 (3rd edition). The chosen records involve three groups of strong earthquakes; groupe1: nearfieldearthquakes with long period coherent velocity pulse, groupe2: near-field earthquake records with non-coherent velocity pulse and groupe3: far-field earthquakes without any velocity pulse. The presented response parameters indicate that because of overall behavior of steel SMRFs in comparison with other structural systems, the both response parameters i.e. the seismic base shear and the stories lateral inertia force would considerably be reduced. On the other hand, it is important to pay attention to control the lateral displacement and drift of all stories. The aforementioned subject must be considered in the design process of steel SMRFs in near zones of active faults
