Many ranking methods have been proposed so far. However, there is yet no method that can always give a satisfactory solution to every situation; some are counterintuitive, not discriminating; some use only the local information of fuzzy values; some produce different ranking for the same situation. For overcoming the above problems, we propose a new method for ranking fuzzy numbers by magnitude degree operator. To introduce the magnitude degree operator, we first define inequality of ordered pairs. The magnitude degree of a fuzzy number depends on the ambiguity of fuzzy number. This operator can apply for all defuzzification and in this way ranking of fuzzy numbers may be more accurate in particular when fuzzy numbers have the same order. Not only the operator can rank fuzzy numbers accurately but also the calculation of proposed operator is far simple and easy. Finally, some comparative examples are used to illustrate the advantages of the proposed method
