چکیده:

In this study a copolymer of styrene and chloromethyl styrene with molar ratio 3:1 was synthesized through free radical polymerization that was initially insoluble in water.(1) Then the resulted Poly (styrene-co-(chloromethyl) styrene) [poly (St-co-CMS)] modified with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) as naturally occurring nanocapsule in DMF as solvent. The resulted modified copolymers changed to be water soluble and was able to solubilize hydrophobic guest molecules such as cholesterol and also could capture some heavily metals through their nanocavities (2). In practice, to the solution of water containing hazardous heavily metal, the obtained Poly (styrene-co-(cyclodextrinmethyl) styrene) [poly (St-co-CDMS)], was added then with addition acetone or methanol the complex was precipitated and purified. The loading amount of captured metals through copolymer was evaluated using UV-vis spectroscopy. The DSC data provided direct evidence of the thermal stability of the synthesized copolymer. The chemical structure of the copolymer was elucidated with common spectroscopy methods such as FT-IR and 1H NMR.
