Reduction in nanochitosan size makes it a superior environmental friendly material and improves nanochitosan properties, strength and Antibacterial effects. In this research paper nanochitosanwas prepared by a novel method based on ionic gelation using low-molecular-weight chitosan andmaleic acid. The produced nanochitosan characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) analysis.The particle size was dependent on thechitosan and maleic acid concentration used in preparation method and pH of the solution.Nanoparticles with sizes smaller than 100 nm were achieved; that can be extremely important for various applications. The obtained nanoparticles showed very homogeneous morphology showing a quite uniform particles size distribution and a rather spherical shape.
