PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) magnetic nanocomposite films were prepared by solution casting using two types of nanomagnetic particles: (i) magnetic nanoparticles synthesized by co-precipitation method using oleic acid as a coating agent; (ii) Fe3O4 nanoparticles prepared by hydrolysis method without using a coating agent. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that the PVDF magnetic nanocomposite had a porous structure with Fe3O4 nanoparticles dispersed inside the porous polymer matrix. The presence of crystalline magnetite within the polymer matrix was confirmed by X-Ray diffraction method (XRD). The magnetic properties of the resulting nanocomposites were investigated by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The PVDF magnetic nanocomposites had coercive values from 1.25 to 4.5 Oe and saturation magnetization from 1.35 to 6 emu/g with increasing Fe3O4 content. Also type II nanocomposites had generally higher magnetization than that of type I nanocomposites.
