Third generation (3G) wireless systems operate with wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) over the air interface. This access technology requires a tight power control by the base station on the uplink in order to reduce the multiple access interference and thus increase the system capacity. In this paper, two new power control (PC) algorithms are suggested. In these algorithms, a parameter that can be optimized in different environments is defined. Also, a known power control algorithm is simulated and the convergence behavior of these algorithms are compared. We use two antenna (space) diversity as a powerful technique used in wireless communications, in order to improve the performance of PC algorithms. The simulation results for both space diversity and without will be compared and advantage of using space diversity will be presented .
