Membrane bioreactor technology combines the use of biological processes and membrane technology to treat wastewater and provide organic and suspended solids removal. This study is aimed to evaluate the performance of a lab-scale membrane bioreactor (MBR) treating Faraman’s industrial estate wastewater. The MBR system was operated in semi plug flow hydraulic regime. Experimental design was performed by response surface methodology (RSM) to evaluate the effect of two different numerical factors, hydraulic retention time (HRT) and mixed liquor volatile suspended solids (MLVSS) on the bioreactor performance. The RSM used in the present study was a general factorial design involving. Maximum of TCOD removal efficiency was found to be 94.9% for the CAS-MBR in HRT of 24 h and MLVSS of 10000 mg.L‒۱٫ Microfiltration showed a 1.0-3.6% increase in TCOD removal for CAS-MBR system. The range of the effluent turbidity achieved 4.1-18.0 NTU for the CAS-MBR. In comparison with influent turbidity (~ 700-1000 NTU), membrane bioreactor showed a high turbidity reduction in all experiments (97.4-99.7%).
