چکیده:

Large rivers with multiple dams on the main stem and its tributaries typically have multiple purposes. The purposes of each dam can include the generation ofhydroelectric power; the storage of water for domestic, industrial, and agricultural uses; recreational; and other uses. As the demand for each of these resourcesincreases, especially electrical generation, there is a need to further optimize the use of water temporarily stored in dams. This paper describes the application of thecomputer program HEC RES-SIM in order to carry out systematic scenario analysis to optimize hydroelectric power generation while preserving and enhancing theadditional purposes of multi-reservoir systems. The use of this technique for analyzingtrans-jurisdictional and trans-national water allocation based on past rights, treaties, and future negotiations are also discussed and demonstrated.
