چکیده:

In this research, design and operation of an optical system for surface profiling and object shape learning are reported. The reported opto-mechanical consists of a light source, double-fiber optical design and an mechanical scanning system. In this design one fiber transmits the source light to the object surface and the second one transmits the light reflected off the surface to a photodetector for the reflection analysis. By scanning the double-fiber probe in light reflection properties of different plane- and curved-surfaces are investigated. Reflection signals for the plane and cylindrical surfaces made with different curvatures and materials are described. In order to see the effect of the surface material, for a fixed radius cylinder, the surface reflecting material is changed and the reflection response curves analyzed. Our results show that the reported system can be used effectively to monitor the object surface profiles and to recognize the curvature of the scanned object surface. Such information can be obtained for both the metallic and non-metallic surface materials. Obtained results show that the reported optical system provides a simple method for the object shape study and determination of different surface structures through the optical reflection signal investigations
