The objective of the present study is to investigate flows in S-shaped bends with sweep angle of 90 degree at Reynolds number of 900. The fluid mechanics of blood flow in a curved artery with stenosis is studied through a mathematical analysis and employing Cosmos software. Blood is modelled as an incompressible non-Newtonian fluid and the flow is assumed to be steady and laminar. Hemodynamic characteristics are analyized. The combined effects of stenosis and curviture on flow characteristics are also studied. It is found that the effect of stenosis is more dominant than that of the curviture. Due to the combined effect of stenosis and curvature, the seconday streamlines are modified in a cross-sectional plane. The results of computational simulations may supplement MR and other in vivo diagnostic techniques to provide an accurate picture of the hemodynamics in stenotic artery
