چکیده:

In this paper, the application of a high-resolution numerical scheme in estimation of depth hydrograph in the flood plain and reservoir of a dam due to breach in the dam is presented. Two-dimensional governing equations of the unsteady flow are discretized in finite-volume framework. The numerical method actually combines fluxvector and flux-difference splitting schemes to derive precise numerical flux at the cell interfaces of the mesh. An accurate fourth-order Runge-Kutta method has been employed for numerical integration. The numerical model has been verified bycomparison of the results with available experimental data. The results showsatisfactory agreement between experimental and numerical data. The simulated depth hydrographs can be used for early warning systems to decrease the extent of the loss due to dam failure
