Most of asphalt concrete core dams have been built in countries with low seismicity condition; hence there is little information about the dynamic behavior of this type of dams. However, in area with high seismicity condition it is required to evaluate the response of this kind of dams against sever earthquake motions. Strong ground motions from close to large magnitude earthquakes are the most severe earthquake loading that structures undergo. In this paper, dynamic behavior of asphalt concrete core rockfill dams (ACRD) is evaluated subjected to far-field and near-fieldearthquake motions that have major differences in frequency content, with emphasis on asphaltic core behavior. Parametric numerical simulation is done using two dimensional plain strain finite difference method which is used in FLAC code (Itasca, 2005). Mohr-coulomb elastic perfectly plastic constitutive model is used for dam and foundation and parameters including: dam height, near-field and far-field earthquake records and peak accelerations are considered for evaluation
