The thermal performance of a two phase closed thermosyphon (TPCT) was modeled from the governing equations. Liquid-film momentum advection and axial normal stress, typically neglected byprevious investigators, were included and shown to be important to the TPCT erformance. The model presented also expanded previous investigations to include both temperature and heat-flux controlled TPCT and TPCTs with mixed or other external boundary conditions. Mathematical modeling was incorporated to solve the nonlinear equations. A series of TPCT experiments were conducted.Predictions from the model agree well with experimental results. The parametric effects of operating temperatures, geometry, filling ratio and condenser thermal capacity were studied. The model presented could be used for optimizing and design of TPCT.
