Low frequency oscillations (LFO) are a frequentharmful phenomenon which increase the risk of instability forthe power system . They confine the steady-state powertransfer limits, which therefore changes operational systemeconomics and security. The statistic synchronous compensator(STATCOM) is one of the important FACTS devices that can beused for dynamic compensation of power systems to providevoltage support and stability improvement. In this paper, twonovel control methods of STATCOM have been discussed andcompared. The designed Fuzzy and Adaptive Neuro FuzzyInference System (ANFIS) are auxiliary controllers that candamp power oscillations efficiently. Advantages of Fuzzy andANFIS control methods cause authors focus on comparativebetween them. Simulation results are useful due to choose thebest STATCOM control methods. A four machines system hasbeen used in order to study low frequency oscillation. TheMATLAB/Simulink software program is used to verify theeffectiveness of each control method.
