Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM) is simple and robust machine. The advantages of high efficiency, need to low maintenances and capability with harsh environment take this family of motors into consideration in industrial applications. In this paper, a novel 4/4 Multilayer Switched Reluctance Motor(MSRM) with 7 magnetically independent layers is proposed and compared with a usual one layer SRM with a same size.The 3-D magnetostatic simulation analysisof the novel MSRM and the one layer SRM is performed using Finite Element Method (FEM) which analyses the motor to obtain the flux, torque and other parameters. Three layers are turned on in this new 7 layer MSRM together producing more torque and also decreasing the torque ripple in compare with the presented one layer SRM. Since each layer has its independent phase in the motor, the isolation problem of coils and cooling troublesome existing in custom SRMs is solved. In addition, these types of SRM have some other advantages, like simpler configuration, working in higher speed, etc.
