In the current power systems, distributed generation (DG) has generated a lot interest in different countries due to growing ideas about fast depletion of fossil fuel resources, load growth and environmental pollution and global warming using these resources. Poor power quality, low efficiency and high cost of power production using large plants are the best motivators for implementing DGs in distribution power systems. Hence, this paper illustrates a proposed technique for loss minimization in power system with distributed generations using a Bacterial Foraging Algorithm (BFA). Optimized location, size and number of DGs are determined using this approach. Different and optimal alternatives are analyzed financially based on comparison between capital and operational DG costs and advantages earned saving energy loss. The model is simulated in Matlab Simulink software and the test is carried out on IEEE 14-bus test system and results of the simulation indicate that the application of the proposed technique can result in considerable savings.
