Liquefaction of saturated sands is one of the most important topics in geotechnical engineering. Reinforcing the saturated sandy deposit is one of the solutions to mitigate liquefaction potential. Many reinforcing techniques have been introduced in last 2 decades. However increasing in cost and technicaland environmental performance have led us to research on alternative reinforcing materials. Scrap derived recycle materials (such as tire chips and tire shreds) are some kinds of alternative materials. This paper presents results of a series of a one dimensional 1-g shaking table model tests that have been conducted on sand and sand mixed tire chips. The tests were performed on various percentages of sand-tire chips mixtures and liquefaction potentials of the mixtures were evaluated. Results of reinforced and unreinforced sand as compared with each other show that reinforcing the saturated loose sandy deposit by tire chips improves the liquefaction susceptibility considerably
