چکیده:

The superlative mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes make them the filler material of choice forcomposite reinforcement. Composites of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) with poly methyl methacrylate(PMMA) were prepared for use as bone cement. The MWCNT loadings ranged from 0.1 to 0.5 wt. %. The mechanicalproperties of the composite were characterized using tensile as well as hardness test. The morphology and degree ofdispersion of the MWCNT in the PMMA matrix at different loads were examined using field emission scanningelectron microscopy. Cell viability was determined over 7 days in vitro using the standard colorimetric MTT assay. Asa result, optimal weight percentage of carbon nanotubes was found which enhanced the mechanical properties of thecomposite.
