This study attempts to prepare Co and Fe nanoparticles (NPs) using a simple and low-cost electric arc-discharge inethylene glycol (EG). By investigating the effects of the different discharge currents optimum current were obtained.Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and UV-visible spectroscopy data indicate that at the arc current of 10 A, the size ofiron NPs is about 103 nm and that of cobalt NPs is about 92.95 nm and it can raise the arc current leading to largerNPs. Formation of the pure Co and Fe NPs are evidenced by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements whichgives an average size of about 21 nm for Co and 14 nm for Fe using Scherrer’s relation at 30 A current.
