Environmental pollution caused by vast application of organic solvents in different industries has let to various restrictions and regulations to be put in place by governments and some organizations. The ultimate goal of these regulations is to limit use of organic solvents and therefore damage to environment. The main aim of this work was to provide possibility of high loading of nano particles in coating formulations with no detriment of mechanical properties.In this study, the surface of TiO2 nano-particles was modified with Methacryloxy Propyl Trimethoxy Silane (MPTS). The grafting of silane on nano-particles was evaluated with Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Surface modification of TiO2 nano particles resulted in enhancement of their surface organophilicity and dispersion in polymeric matrix. Finally, the effect of surface modification of nano particles on Critical Pigment Volume Concentration (CPVC) was investigated.
