In this study, wear of spur gears is simulated using numerical methods based on modified Archard’s model. The contact pressure is assumed to be equal to the Hertzian mean pressure. A MATLAB program is developed to calculate the wear depth for each meshing cycle. The results show that wear depth is high both in addendum and dedendum of the tooth flank and maximum wear occurs at dedendum region. Also addition of MoS2 increases the wear resistance. Using Hertzian mean pressure instead of elliptical distribution increases the computational speed significantly. The gain in required computation time using this simplification is almost 30 times. Simulation results with the simplified model are in good agreement with corresponding results from the more extensive model.
