Nanorod Nickeloxide nanostructures with diameters of 60–۸۰ nm and lengths of up to one micrometer wereprepared by heat treatment of the precursor obtained via a hydrothermal process. The structure, morphology andproperties of the products were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), and UV–Visible absorption spectra. The results of the structural and optical measurements made on thesenanorods are discussed. Thermal stability of this nanorod was studied by calcining the precursor at differenttemperatures and the breakdown of the precursor nanorod was observed after being calcined at 800˚C. Heat treatmentresults in significant influence on the grain size in the NiO nanorods structure. The strain of lattice decreases with theincrease of calcination temperature. Meanwhile, we find that the optical band gap energy increases with the decrease ofthe crystalline grain size.
