چکیده:

This paper presents the results of an experimental study on liquid jets discharging from different noncircular orifices into still ambient air. The experiments were conducted with orifices of approximately same area of cross section but varying orifice shape using water as experimental fluid. The flow behavior of liquid jets was analyzed using their photographs captured by an imaging system. Laboratory studies using elliptic orificeand orifices with corners, e.g. quadrangular and triangular, have observed that as the jet spreads, its cross-section can regularly evolve through shapes similar to those of the orifice but with axes successively rotated at angles characteristic of the jet geometry, denoted as the axis-switching phenomenon.
