The purpose of this paper is to propose an interesting combination of two different types of switched reluctance generators (SRG) as a suitable prototype to produce electrical energy using variable speed energy resources such as wind turbines. The paper focuses on the amount of electric efficiencies of these two generators when they are utilized as the suitable candidates to produce electric power. These proposed generators have been manufactured within one common physical framework. This framework consists of two magnetically independent stator and rotor sets (layers), where each stator set includes four salient poles, while the rotor comprises of two salient poles with almost equal arc lengths and no windings. The first generator called Field assisted SRG which has a stationary reel, the field coil wrapped around it, and this field coil is placed between the two-stator sets indeed, whereas in the second type named Self excited SRG, there is no field coil. Via the experimental findings, this issue is substantiated that in the low speed of application the proposed Field assisted SRG may offer more efficiency than the Self excited SRG, whereas in high speed of application this condition is reversed. This interesting trait will help users to get suitable efficiencies behalf of this interesting combination in wide speed range of applications.
