Ranking procedure on maintenance tasks for monitoring of embankment dams outlines the procedures and presents the rationale to assist in prioritization of maintenance and rehabilitation (M&R) actionson dams. In this approach, the priority rankings for the monitoring devices on a particular dam are a measure of the overall ability of the monitoring system to provide accurate information on failure modes. In this paper, the monitoring systems of five embankment dams are evaluated in Iran according to published Technical Report by US Army Corps (1999). The evaluation procedure is carried out for 15-khordad and Lar dams that are near of Tehran and also for Makoo, Mahabad and Zarrineh_rood dams that are located in west Azarbijan province. The Height of dams are variable in a range of 44(Zarrineh_rood dam) to 110 m (Lar dam). The type of all dams are earth or rockfill dam with central clay core. In the paper, monitoring systems of these dams are considered and evaluated by the condition rating procedure. For this purpose, the priority ranking (PR) for different monitoring devices that installed in the dams are computed and so the overall CI for the monitoring systems of dams are determined on base of the PR of monitoring devices and the important factor of dams. The results are shown that the monitoring system of Lar dam has poor condition (CI<39), and it requires to repair or rehabilitation. While the condition of Monitoring systems for the other dams are evaluated as excellent or good. The details of the evaluation procedure are described in this paper.
