When selecting an adjustable speed AC or DC drive, the load type is a very important consideration. During the selection process, it is important to understand the speed and torque characteristics. It is also important to understand the horsepower requirements of the type of load to be considered. In This paper DC drive of hoisting system of rotary drilling rig is explained and the behavior of hoisting system via logging and case study is studied by its load curves. The numerical electrical and mechanical data was obtained from definite sensors. This study present active and reactive power consumption of current DC drive, speed and torque graph and finally torque-speed graph will be drawn. The experimental results of torque-speed show the load requires high torque at low speeds and will continue with the speed held constant, the torque and power will change a little by little. According to this, analyzing different type of available loads on a drilling rig specially on hoisting system to study replacement of current DC drive with AC drive is noticed.
