In this work, the effects of processing PLAs with two molecular weights in a compounder, and the addition of 0.5wt % of three different fillers (talc, nanoclay, and nanosilica) on the rheological properties of linear PLA was investigated. The results demonstrated how processing, molecular weight and inorganic fillers affect the viscoelastic properties and crystallinity of PLA. The time sweep test was conducted to explore the synergistic effect of crystallinity and melt strength for various types of samples. It was observed that processing decreases the complex viscosity and significantly increases the crystallization rate. Also, higher molecular weight shows higher complex viscosity and slightly lower crystallization rate. Also, talc increased the melt strength and the degree of crystallinity in PLA more significantly than did nanoclay and nanosilica. This improved crystallinity synergistically increased the shear and extensional viscosities of PLA.
