۰٫۵ wt % Pt/TiO2 catalysts was promoted using potassium (0–۱۰ wt.%) by a co-impregnation method and effects of promoting on water–gas shift (WGS) activity have been investigated. Addition of potassium promoter to catalyst lead to higher water gas shift activity in comparison with promoter free catalyst, and it has been found that 3 wt% K was the optimized loading. Moreover, catalyst stability has been improved as a result of inhibiting Pt particle sintering. In order to examine the effects of operating conditions on reaction kinetics, the variation of reaction rate and carbon monoxide conversion has been presented as a function of crucial parameter such as temperature. These results suggest that K promoted Pt/TiO2 is a promising single stage water gas shift catalyst for small scale hydrogen production and show hopeful results for low temperature applications.
