چکیده:

MoSi2 has been used widely as heating elements due to its high electrical conductivity, thermal shock resistivity, and remarkable oxidation resistivity in high temperatures. On the other hand, monolithic MoSi2 shows extreme brittleness and poor impact strength at lower temperature, and low strength and creep resistance at elevated temperature (>1200 ). To overcome these weaknesses, solid solution of MoSi2/WSi2 was prepared by Self-Propagating High Temperature Synthesis (SHS). For this purpose, W, Mo, and Si powders with specific stoichiometric ratiowere mixed by shaker to obtain solid solution of MoSi2- 20vol% WSi2.The obtained mixture was pressed by a uniaxial press under pressures100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 MPa in order to prepare green discs. Then, these discs synthesized in an atmosphere control reactor. During synthesis process, the temperature of ignition and combustion were measured and obtained 1250 and 1450 respectively by thermocouple. Finally, thecharacteristics and morphology of the solid solution were studied by X Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) respectively
