In this study, the effect of pistachio shell flour on mechanical behavior of high-density polyethylene based wood plastic composite (WPC) were investigated. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) composite filled with pistachio shell flour were prepared in a twin-screw extruder and injection-molding machine. In the sample preparation stage , three levels of filler loading (40,50 and 60% wt.%) and three levels of coupling agent (0,2.5 and 5% wt.%) were added. The result of this study demonstrated that the presence of maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene (MAPE) resulted in an improvement of the filler-matrix bonding and this consequently enhanced the overall mechanical properties of the composite. Tensile properties of the composite were adversely affected by an increase in pistachio shell flour content. Tensile strengths of the composite slightly decreased as the filler loading increased from 40 to 60% wt.% Tensile modulus improved with increasing filler loading and coupling agent content.
